My first and most significant entrepreneurial venture was as the founder of TI-IN Network, Inc., the first interactive-instructional satellite network in the nation to serve public schools. We offered more than 2000 hours of live and interactive (one-way video, two-way audio, two-way data) high school credit courses and teacher professional development programs each year. My work as founder of the TI-IN Network was featured in The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Education Week, and through many more news outlets around the world. It was also featured on the CBS Evening News.
My second venture was as founder of Satellite Learning, Inc., through which I published one of the first guides to educational programs offered via satellite.
I later started a passion project and founded Mousetime Media, Inc. to self-publish the children's book, A House With No Mouse. I donated many of the books to libraries and clubs serving families in areas with little-to-no Internet access.
After leaving TI-IN Network, I became an international consultant to help increase access to educational resources through the use of technology. My clients included nonprofit organizations, colleges and universities, NGOs, corporations, and governments. I supported educational projects at PBS for many years, and my firm was contracted with the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) to conduct research for a report to Congress on the status of distance learning in the United States in the mid 1990s.
Following that, I worked under contract for several years with the World Bank to lay the groundwork for the African Virtual University. I worked in the Sub-saharan African countries of Uganda, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Ethiopia, and Senegal. I also helped the World Bank secure collaboration with governments and program providers in France, Belgium, Ireland, and the United States.
After too much travel over too many years, I moved from Texas to California to become Vice President of Education and Outreach at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. It was an amazing experience and time in my life. I was the executive overseeing all education and visitor programs, the development and launch of the award-winning Monterey Bay Aquarium website, the development and production of the Splash Zone exhibit educational programs and materials, the publication of numerous educational and informational books, and much more.
After moving to California, I also worked with KTEH Public Television in San Jose as General Manager of KCAH Public Television in Salinas, Monterey, and Santa Cruz, which is now operated under KQED in San Francisco.
I realized how much I loved teaching when I started lecturing at California State University, Monterey Bay and progressed from lecturer to full-rank professor in the College of Business. It was there I led thousands of business students through their capstone experience and received the Allen Griffen Excellence in Teaching Award.
I retired to half-time teaching and launched my Strategy Steward services as a way to help even more people and businesses achieve their highest potential. I became a certified Business Model You Practitioner to hone my coaching skills and to be able to bring maximum value to my time with you.
At this time of uncertainty in the world, Pat helped me to have a new approach to my business. Calling it a relaunch, it’s definitely not business as usual. She was very supportive with ideas and solutions to make my business more successful by building goals around my strengths and brand experience, and emphasizing safety and regulation standards. The new strategy emphasizes taking action to achieve results with creative balance and seeing outside the box in this new way of life. I am looking to my decisions today as steps in a lifelong process and with a greater amount of knowledge and insight.
